Dirty Looks

Dirty Looks was a national act, signed in the late 80's to Atlantic Records. The first album, "Cool From The Wire" received a lot of critical praise, and their video for "Oh Ruby!" received MTV airplay. That album was produced by Max Norman (probably best known for producing Ozzy Osbourne's "Blizzard of Oz" and "Diary Of A Madman" albums).

By 1991, Dirty Looks had lost their deal with Atlantic, and had released an independent album, "Bootlegs." The band had gone through some lineup changes as well (only members Paul Lidel and founder Henrik Ostergaard remained from the "Cool From The Wire" days). Oddly enough, bassist Dave Naro, who breifly replaced Dan Holeva in FreeFall during Ed Collins' tenure, toured with Dirty Looks for a brief time in 1991.

Ed's relationship with Dirty Looks begins around that time. Ed toured across the country with Dirty Looks, and when the band reached California, they hooked up again with producer Max Norman, and recorded "Five Easy Pieces" for the Sony record label:

Dirty Looks - Five Easy Pieces
  • Blue Tequila
  • Getting Over
  • Only Tomorrow
  • Liquid Crush
  • Five Easy Pieces
  • Gas House Sally
  • Back to Marseilles
  • The Last Forever
  • Hard In The Middle
  • Get It Back (Though Your Head)
  • Violence In Blue
  • Cardiac Arrest
Ed plays drums, and sings backing vocals on the album, though the only mention of him is in the Thank You's. Ed left the band and Jim Harris, who is pictured on the cover art, actually joined the band AFTER the recording of the album. Ed returned to Pennsylvania, and began to work with Arc Angel.
